hello ,
in the past , when i went to a page with multiple
links and clicked on it , it would be highlighted .
so when i went back to the original page , i would
know which link(s) i had visited .
also , when i would go back to the original page ,
it would go to the last visited link .
it now goes back to the top of the page .
could anyone tell me how i might correct
these issues ?

I'm not sure I understand you 100%, but that sort of thing is under the
control of the author of the particular web page you are viewing.
That's where the link colors are defined, including things like not
being underlined, no different colors, and no anchors if the author
wants to do that. A link could be Green when you first see it, Red when
you hover over it, and Blue when you've already used the link once.
Your browser remembers whether a link has been visited or not, but the
web page author determines the colors you will see. Fortunately not
many people are dumb enough to use the scheme I used as an example, but
I wanted to make the point with it.
On a lot of professional sites, they're set up so that you don't
know whether a link is a link or not until you hover your mouse over it.
Then the cursor turns to the pointing finger and you know you've found a
link. Otherwise they just look like all the surrounding text.
Personally, I don't like that; it's easy enough to tell what might be a
link once you get used to it, but like you, I prefer to be able to see
whether I've already visited that link before; especially if I'm doing
research.
As for going to the last visited link on a page when you go back to it,
that again is determined by the author of the page. You can often tell
whether that will happen or not by looking at your browser's status bar
when you hover your mouse over the return link: If you're going to go
back to the previous link you used, the address it exposes will have a
"#" sign near the end of it, which indicates to go back to the page, and
then go to the bookmarked location of the link (where the pound sign
(octorthorpe) indicates. e.g. it'll look like
....somepage\apage.htm#here. That will take you to the folder named
somepage, to the file apage.htm, and to the bookmark within that file
called "here".
So in essence, unless I've completely misinterpreted your question,
there is nothing you can do to "fix" that situation at your end. Unless
perhaps you ask the site author to put such actions back on the site.
It's always possible they're not aware bookmarks etc. went away.
