When viewing documents in "print view" in MSWord, I
alternately see either lined pages (like notebook paper)
or gridded pages (like graph paper). This only happens in
print view and the lines don't print, but I can't figure
out 1. Why this happens; and 2. How to turn it off. Has
anybody seen this before?

Dave;

To display help in MS Word hit F1.

Show or hide drawing gridlines
[[To display the Drawing toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options
that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, use the Customize
dialog box (point to Toolbars on the View menu and click Customize). To see
more buttons, click Toolbar Options at the end of the toolbar.), click
Drawing .
On the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, and then click Grid.
Select the Display gridlines on screen check box.
Choose the options you want.
For Help on an option, click the question mark , and then click the
option.]]

Display or hide gridlines in a table
[[Gridlines form the cell boundaries and are not printed. All tables (table:
One or more rows of cells commonly used to display numbers and other items
for quick reference and analysis. Items in a table are organized into rows
and columns.) by default have a black ½-point, single-line, solid-line
border that is printed. If you remove this border, the gridlines remain
until you hide them.]]

On the Table menu, click Show Gridlines or Hide Gridlines.
Note Gridlines are not visible when viewing a document in a Web browser
(Web browser: Software that interprets HTML files, formats them into Web
pages, and displays them. A Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet
Explorer, can follow hyperlinks, transfer files, and play sound or video
files that are embedded in Web pages.).]]
