Line appeared on screen.

Packard Bell SW51-120 notebook.

Just a few hours ago a fine line has appeared on screen. It is approx 4" in
from the left side and runs top to bottom. It is no thicker than say a piece
of cotton thread.

Any ideas please.

Usually this is almost always the LCD panel itself. Hooking up an
external monitor should show just fine. If it has the same problem, then
it is the video card/chips.

Change desktop resolution. If it is still there, the laptop screen has a
problem, and hardware repair is in order.
