Limited Windows Activations?

I bought Windows XP a few years ago as an upgrade to Win 98. I have upgraded
my system a few times since then with no problems. I recently upgraded again
and now Windows is telling me I need a valid Windows XP Key Code. I have
never given my software or Key Code to anyone else, but it says I have used
it too many times.

What can I do to activate Windows?

Hi

Have you tried Activating by 'phone? A 'phone # should be available when
you try to Activate.

I have not tried that. I was afraid that would be a 6-months on hold
scenario. Do you think that is the best answer?

You'll have to explain to one of the Microsoft employees what exactly is
happening and tell them what error message you are seeing.

generally not too painful , 5-10 minutes
 
Yes follow their advice and use the phone in option and it won't take too
long but I would suggest using the phone buttons to enter the numbers rather
than speaking the numbers which is quite painful because they make you repeat
numbers over and over. After doing this phone activation and you complete it
then follow the steps in this weblink to back up your activation files to a
disk so you can just restore 2 files to the proper location and bypass the
activation.
