limited systray size

What registry setting causes causes my system tray to be limited to a certain
size?
I can only have 6 application icons and the clock in my system tray.
Has anybody else experienced that?
 
I can have loads of application icons in my system tray if I want to. Are
you sure that you do not have some of them hidden? Right click on the task
bar and select Properties. Click on the Customize button on the dialogue
that appears and see if you have set any of the system tray icons to 'hide'.
You can change them to be shown if you so wish.

Also, I am assuming that you really DO mean the icons in your system tray.
Note: These are only those icons that load at startup and are required to be
displayed in the tray. Only these startup applications will show up, not any
applications that you have installed on your PC (unless they have a 'display
in system tray' option). You need to go through the Start menu for those.

If there is a registry setting to change the number of icons that can be
displayed in the system tray, it is not one that I am aware of - sorry!

Right-click the taskbar, click Properties, deselect "Hide inactive icons".

Two points regarding that last sentence:

1. Not all autostarting programs manifest themselves by an icon in the tray.

2. Of those programs that do appear in the tray, not all of them are
"required" to be there. Many have the option not to be shown there.
