Robert,

The message is caused by the computer not receiving service from a DHCP server.
This could have 2 possible causes:
# The computer in question has lost connectivity with the rest of the network.
# The DHCP server formerly providing service has packed it in, and stopped
issuing settings.

Are there other computers on the network, and if so, are those computers getting
settings? What exactly does your computer connect to?

Diagnose the physical connectivity issue first.

Susantha,

This is a peer-peer help forum. Why not provide the solution here, rather than
email? That way everybody can benefit.

hey chuck,
i have a router and i have to other cpus hooked up to it plus mine, my
cpu and another one is hooked up to the router, and the other one is using a
wireless card. Ive had many solutions that i read through these threads. One
was i need to renew my IP address, but thats not working. and when i try to
repair the connections it said i cant renew the ip address. I really need
help with this to get bak online on my cpu. thanks --Robert

Robert,

OK, since you have a router, which is issuing settings to your other computers,
let's concentrate on physical and logical settings. Are you just interested in
Internet service, or is file sharing an issue too?

Provide "ipconfig /all" for the problem computer, and for 2 other computers
connected to the router with no problem.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-internet-service.html#AskingForHelp>

Next, start with physical clues. Do you see any lights on the router? Are they
any different for the problem computer and for the other computers? Any router
logs that might help? Can you swap router port AND cable with another computer?

Finally, consider LSP / Winsock corruption, which has been known to interfere
with DHCP client connectivity.

hey chuck, do you have a msn or hotmail account where i can talk to you on
the messenger instead of going back and forth on these threads?

Robert,

This is a peer-peer forum, and most work is best done in open discussion using
the forum. However, if you'd feel more comfortable using email, my address is
below, in my sig.

Hi

I am having exactly the same problem as Robert.

I've applied SP2 patches and all sorts of things ... how was your issue
resolved?

as you say "This is a peer-peer forum, and most work is best done in open
discussion using the forum."
