Hello all,
I have 2 XP computers hardwired together via router. Today, the
connection was suddenly lost, and the connection icon on the server
computer displayed 'Limited or no connectivity' . I can view the server
computer from the other one, but I get a message that says I do not have
permission when I try to access it.
I'm sorry for the lack of more specific information. I have worked all
day on this problem and now my brains are scrambled.
Perhaps tomarrow I can provide more and better info if needed. But for
now, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will,

The message "limited or no connectivity" means that the computer can't get DHCP
service. Read my article please for discussion.

Your problem could have any of several causes:
# Hardware failure.
# Network failure on either the computer, or the device previously providing
DHCP services (the router I'd bet).
# Software failure by the DHCP server itself (the router).

Please read my article on solving network problems.

Many folks here will throw things out for you to try. You can follow their
hints, if you like. My personal and professional opinion is that you need to
diagnose your problem from the bottom up. Make sure that a cable, or the
router, isn't dead. Then move on to networking issues.

The fact that you "can view the other computer" means that your computer has
cached a share for that computer in its browse list. Find out if your computer,
and the other computer, is connected to the router. See the above article.
