Here is the scenario envisaged by my boss:
On a server, part of an NT network, resides a spreadsheet, Master.xls, in a
separate folder reside three or more subsidiary spreadsheets which have
information for different branch offices, these are called branch1.xls,
branch2.xls and branch3.xls. These make use of different ranges in
Master.xls and are read only. My boss wants to make sure that although the
branch filres link to the master each user of these can only see their own
information, they cannot look to where the link is and link a new file to
the master and so see other data in master.xls.
Can this be done via NT permissions and or Excel security?

Thank you

Joe

You may be able to stop a lot of people with some version of security, but I
don't think you can stop the really determined.

Excel isn't made for that kind of security. If it's available in excel, you
should consider it available to all.

That said, I don't know enough about NT security to know, but my guess is that
if part of a file is open to someone, the whole file is open. I can't imagine
being able to lock portions of a file via NT security.
