Limit permissions to specified computers on a network

I have four computers on a work group, two of which run under XP
Professional.

I want the two XP machines to back up each others work files. I have set
this up by unticking "Use simple file sharing" in Folder Options>View and
sharing the folder concerned. But now the other computers on the network
can also see the work files in the shared folders. How do I prevent this so
that only the XP machines can see each other shared folders?

You cant stop anyone from seeing the shares. If they are shared then they
are available tobe seen by anyone on the network.
You could add a $ to the sharename eg. myshare$
This hides them from browsing but they are still accessable by name eg.
\\computername\myshare$
This does not stop someone on another machine typing this in and accessing
the share.

The way to stop that is by using permissions.
To do this you need an account on the XP machines that is the same on both.
Then set that account to access the shared folder and deny everyone else.

Windows XP Pro controls access to its shared folders based on user
accounts, not computer names. Ron Lowe and I have written a web page
