License-Did the business get scammed?

Here what the computer business told me. I could bring my system and
they would install xp on. No product key needed and there wouldn't;
be one affixed to the computer. It wouldn't need activation and
would pass all WGA test. He claims the owner paid $10,000 dollars to
allow them to install xp on all his clients computers. I didn't ask
who he paid the license fee to.

Another words, he can use one (And a backup disk ) to install xp on
all his customers computers.

This seems fishy to me. However, the business does have a Microsoft
certification and license and been is business for several years.
That is why I think the business is being scammed.

I never heard of a copy being installed without a product key. They
only thing I can thing of, is they have one of the Royalty OEM that
generate a new product key with each install.

And how much does the shop propose to charge you for this service?

Have you checked their reputation with the Better Business Bureau?

PS: Pay with a major credit card if you decide to go forward with this
scheme & make sure you're able to Validate here before leaving the shop:

Either they are lying to you or lying to themselves.
Could be they are just that ignorant - but I doubt it.

I just feel sorry for people and businesses that use his services.
They may not be using a legit operating system and may not even know
it.

I do know when I got my xp on my emachine, it didn't ask for a key.
It just present a EULA and finished installing.

Yes - you can do that - custom OEM install, pre-activated - but each of
those licenses are paid for and $10K isn't going to make it unlimited. heh

On that machine you could run Magic JellyBean KeyFinder and see what the
product key is.

I would be fairly curious to know if they bought a volume license key and
aren't just abusing it.

One possibility to this story is that they have an XP Enterprise VL with 100 CALS as
an example. But I find that a computer store would not do this since it is not
allowed as per the Eula to charge a fee for each install of the Enterprise under the
VL agreement
