The more involved readers may wonder, what happened to the DVD-RAM format? Well, it has not been very popular, if not totally forgotten, in the PC market, despite its random read/write and 100,000 times re-write abilities which are unrivaled by other DVD formats. Two main drawbacks for the DVD-RAM format are, however, its poor compatibility and expensive media. It is estimated that DVD-R and DVD+R are more or less equally compatible, working with more than 90% of the available DVD players/drives worldwide; while only 30% of the install base reads DVD-RAM correctly.
