I have been taking medication for the last 2 years trying to figure out
why my Lexmark X73 stops working and I need to keep re-installing
drivers. I even went to the point of monitoring anything my kids where
doing on the PC to see if they where upsetting it and guess what, they
didn't do it!!

It's reasurring to see that I am not the only one that has suffered
from these problems.

The only funny anecdote I can add to the long saga is that one day I
was playing Neverhood (I've completed it about a dozen times but just
enjoy re-playing the whole saga!) and had finished a session of around
1 1/2 hours, when I exited the program ready to shut down my PC a
balloon appeared saying 'Your New Hardware is Ready to Use', Hey Presto
it worked - for about 2 days and has never worked since.

Since then I keep trying to convince my Wife that the longer I play the
aforementioned game the chances of the X73 working increases!!

I am also in the process of re-designing my rear garden, I am going to
give it another 2 weeks and if the damn thing doesn't work it is going
to end up underneath my rather nice new patio. When I am sitting out
there in the summer sipping a nice Gin 'n' Tonic I am sure that I will
enjoy it even more knowing what I am sitting on!!

Your last sentence answers it all. Replace it with an HP or Canon printer.
Preferably an all-in-one, which has a scanner and copier.

You not using Norton Antivirus by any chance are you?

If you are, uninstall the printer in the add/remove software bit in the
control panel. Then disconnect your printer and restart your computer.
Wait for everything to load, right mouse click the Norton auto protech and
disable it. Then install the printer once it's finished you can re-enable
auto-protect. If you don't use Norton, I've just wasted my time :)
