Left over Outlook 98 folder?

I asked this question in the Outlook newslist but got no answers. Perhaps
someone here can advise me.

When I installed Office XP it told me it would replace my Outlook 98 with
Outlook 2002, which is fine. The new Oultook 2002 works fine and seems to
have found the old pst file. However I see that my drive still contains a
folder named

C:\Program Files\Outlook 98

which contains a folder named "Office" and it in turn contains:

Outlook (Folder) - contains a backups folder
Setup (folder) - contains "outljobs" (folder) and "outlook" (folder)
a variety of .hlp, .aw, .gid and .cnt files.

What are all these leftovers? Can I safely delete them now that I am using
Outlook 2002? If not, can they be renamed so as not to create confusion
later?

I checked in "Add remove programs" and Outlook 98 seems to have been
uninstalled because it is no longer listed.

Thanks.

I wouldn't delete it until you are sure that the new installation isn't
using something in there. I would rename the folder to "Outlook 98 OLD" then
test that Outlook 2002 still continues to work fine for a few days. Then
consider deleting it.

Did you find where Outlook 2002 has been installed? Just for info my copy of
Outlook 2002 on WinXP PRO seems to live here ..

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\

Uninstalling a program usually just removes the files that were put on
disk when it was installed, and not remove data ones and ones it has
generated (like gid indexes to help files). What I would do is rename
that Outlook98 folder, and when nothing has complained for a couple of
weeks it should be safe to delete it

Thanks. That is what I did a couple of days ago and so far everything is
working just fine. I suspect that since I originally installed Outlook 98
in a custom folder named that, the uninstall did not know to remove it.
Anyway, I'll see how it goes and then delete it in a couple of weeks as you
said. Besides, I have good backups.

Thanks.
