this happened suddenly in these days. when i press the LEFT Ctrl on my
keyboard, it will mute the sound of my PC. it's disturbing me when i'm
typing, can anyone help me to fix this problem? thank you very much.

What keyboard do u use? If Microsoft, there is a software in micorsoft.com
downloads where you can change the key setting.

also try to remove the keyboard files start>run>sysdm.cpl

Locate yourself to the keybord and remove it, your system will automatacilly
install the a new version after startup

accidental fix

I experiencing this too and accidentally fixed it.

my left ctrl mutes the sound and at the same time having a slow system due to high hardware interrupts.

After finding a fix for hardware interrupts I notice that it also fixed the issue in left ctrl muting the sound, heres how.

Check the problem by examining the controller’s Primary and Secondary IDE settings: Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> Primary or Secondary IDE Channel -> Properties -> Advanced Settings. Look at the Current Transfer Mode field. If it’s “PIO” then it’s a FUBAR PITA and you’ll need to uninstall the driver, reboot and let XP do its magic reinstall.
