Left Click will not work on desktop

All the icons on my desktop and taskbar when you left
click it, it will not left click just a sand counter.
After a minute it will all turn back up like nothing had
happened.
I have window xp and I didnt download anything. I have no
idea what is happening to my computer. Also, when I go to
delete some of my pictures from My Pictures, I cannot
delete it, even if I point at it and press delete on my
keyboard, left click will not work either. I called my
computer company Dell and they keep on telling me to
reinstall, I really do not want to do that. I work w/ my
computer and just cannot, any help would be very very much
appreciated. I tried system restore, will not work
 
I had that problem 2 weeks ago,the fix was right click on
the start button (only place it would work) > properties
Customize Button > Advance Tab > Put a check in enable

dragging and dropping > OK > Apply > OK ------if this
works for you too let us know.
