I have a number of POP3 servers that Outlook 2003 checks for emails and 2 of
these accounts have "leave messages on server" ticked. Outlook downloads the
messages repeatedly, although not every time. It's driving me mad as there
are hundreds of emails on one of the accounts. If I setup the accounts in
Outlook Express this does not occur, with the same setting, nor did it
previously occur in Outlook 2000. I have checked all other posts and not
found a solution, even though this problem has been raised a number of times.
Outlook is at the latest SP level.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Do you have an antivirus program installed that can scan e-mail as it is
downloaded? If yes, you might try disabling that feature to see if the
problem resolves itself. (It could be where the antivirus/antispam program
is not allowing outlook to send the appropriate commands back to the
server.)

I have Norton 2004 and cannot really disable this as there are so many emails
received from the accounts that actually have viruses. Any other ideas ?

If your ISP offers a web interface to your e-mail account, use it to delete
the offending messages.

I had a similar problem and was referred to messages on
9/2 and 9/3 regarding A NEW OUTLOOK VIRUS ??. I followed
the advice of deleting all files from the ISP mail box
(in my case Charter, in another case it was Comcast).
The Comcast user reported finding two "suspicious"
files. I found none, but since deleting all the files,
I've had no problem.

Good luck.
