I want to "publish" where changes were made in a document but NOT what those
changes were, i.e. I want to DELETE any comments or references to specific
changes, but I want to leave the vertical line in the left margin that
changes were made "here." How do I do that insurng that NO comments,
changes, etc. show up when a document is reopened?

That is not directly possible. The change bar in the margin exists only as
long as the change itself exists.

The closest you'll get -- and totally impractical for a large document with
many changes -- is to use the line tool from the Drawing toolbar to insert
lines on top of the change bars, and then accept all changes. The drawn
lines will remain after the change bars disappear.

THANK YOU! (It wasn't what I wanted to hear, but at least now I won't keep
trying to figure out how to make it work.) With just the line showing,
because I can "hide" the comments, etc., and leave just the line showing, can
I Acrobat the Word doc and have just the line show w/o the comments, etc.?
And thank you again, Mr. Freeman!

You're welcome.

I don't have Acrobat, so I can't tell you what it will do with the change
bars. Try it in a small test document and see what happens.

I have the opposite problem. I have cleared all of the tracking changes and
yet some of the vertical lines remain. How do I get rid of them?

Did you check by clicking the "Next Change" and "Previous Change"
arrows?
