I'm trying to reduce the screen resolution on my laptop's
LCD screen, but when I reduce the resolution in
Display:Properites, the display area shrinks and is
surrounded by a black border. The lower the resolution,
the more black area on my screen. My computer didn't
used to do this and I dont't know what changed. Help
please!

This is normal behavior on some laptops. May want to check your owner's
manual or the online technical resources provided by the laptop manufacturer
to see if this is the case for your system. Some drivers will add an "extend
desktop" setting. If available it will be tucked into Display properties. If there
is a separate configuration tool for display provided, look over those settings
too.

Right this is normal. My laptop has a keyboard combination that will make
the lower resolution fill out the entire screen area.
