I have installed a new Hyundai Q17+ LCD Monitor on Windows XP.
I am finding that the window text, infact most text does not look sharp.
I have played around with the Display Settings, installed the drivers for
the LCD with no difference. Any ideas?

Gav,

This worked for me:

Display Properties, Appearance, Effects, check "Use the following Method to
smooth edges...", select Clear Type. Made a big difference on my LCD
screen.

LCD monitors usually have only one resolution that is native and
really looks good. Other resolutions look fuzzy or out of focus. For
17" 1280X1024 is the most common resolution. Check the manual on what
is recommended for your monitor.

I believe you will find Jerry is correct here. I nearly returned my
wonderful Planar because the default resolution was set too low (1024x768).
It *must* be set at the native resolution of the monitor, which here is
1280x1024.

Thanks - Spot on!

Finally an answer which makes sense in regard with a question I posted on
here not long ago.
It was why is it that I had a crisp/ sharp display on my laptop running Win
Me and after (clean) installing XP Pro, my screen just wasn't as sharp.

So now that I read your thoughts, I would like to know what you think of
this JU:
I was running Win Me with resolution set to 1024x768 on High Color (16 bit).
In XP Pro I wanted to set my display to 1024x768 and I run in the problem I
mentioned. Driver for my video card (Trident CyberBlade AGP-2X) is
up-to-date.

What do you think?

I think that there can be several things causing this.
First, is 1024x768 the recomended resolution for the laptop?
Did you try different refresh rates? Too high might sometimes produce fuzzy
picture.
Then there is always the possibility of poorly written video drivers. Go
back to an earlier version if there are no newer. Make sure you follow the
intructions on how to uninstall/install/update video drivers.
The difference between WinME and WinXP is huge and I have heard of not-new
laptops being not so easy to update between OS's. What does the maker of the
laptop say about it?

First be sure you are using the Native resolution the LCD is built for -
usually 1024x768 on a 15 in one; 1280x1024 on a 17 or 19 inch. They do
not work well when one number of image pixels is being converted to a
different number of physical ones.

Use the monitors own set up to ensure that the scan does accurately
match to the screen; usually there is an Auto that does a pretty good
job, but you might need to fine tune phase or pitch settings

In Display - Appearance, click Effects and make sure you are on Smooth
edges by ClearType
