Does anyone know of a utility that will allow me to use all of a large
harddrive in Windows XP. This is a firewire external drive. Western
Digital's "Data Life Guard, 11" will not run on my system for some
reason????? The only utilities that I can find must run from a floppy using
DOS which will not work for an external drive since windows must be running
to even see it.
Thanks,
JimB

No utility necessary - just SP1 and all proceeding updates.

Windows will deal with it just fine until the drive exceeds 132 Gigabyte, a
motherboard limitation. I am trying to use all of a 160 Gigabyte drive.

If it's a motherboard limitation, then why are you posting here? Have you
been to the manufacturer's site and downloaded any BIOS upgrade? If your
motherboard doesn't support 48-bit LBA, then there's absolutely nothing
whatsoever that can be done, other than replacing the motherboard.

It is my understanding that the BIOS limitation can be overcome with certain
utilities such as Western Digital's "Data Lifeguard" software, which will
not run on my system for some unknown reason. WD has not responded to this
question asked a week ago, hence the search for something else that may
help.
