Laptop + xp + dos

here si my problem, I have a new laptop. It does not have an os installed.
How do I get Xp on it? I know I need a book disk but I don't know how they
work. My cd dosn't run yet. Help me please.
 
The XP CD is bootable. You must go into the BIOS and set the CD drive as the
first bootable device and then insert the XP CD, boot from it, and install
your software.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Just to add - if your Laptop is unable to boot from CD, then it most likely
wouldn't be worth it to load XP on it anyway - the hardware just wouldn't
handle it too well - it would run sooooooo slowwwwww.
