Laptop won't wake up

I have a dell laptop that has been reformatted to windows
2k from XP H.E. When the laptop goes into sleep mode, I
press the power button to wake it up, but it doesn't. Any
suggestions.
 
Some Dell's have their own sleep mode set in the CMOS. Have seen it conflict with Windows hibernate in other posts. In any event,
the power button function, powering the machine on, has nothing to do with Windows and Dell would be the best likely source for
help.
