Laptop with Vista/desktop with XP

My son recently bought a Dell Inspiron laptop with Vista. I tried to connect
him to our home network (which has XP). It shows that he is connected but
does not have internet access. Any ideas why this is happening?
 
Intentional(different thread headings, same content) double posts are not
appreciated here
