Windows XP

Laptop went through metal detector at airport and is now blue screen. Wiped
everything out - what to do or where to turn.

Wiped everything out ?, don't believe metal detectors use field strengths
sufficient to harm a notebook drive. What error codes or register data
does the Blue Screen display ? Remove the battery, run from AC and
make sure it's not in some form of Low Power state ( Standby...) Try
and boot it Safe Mode (F8, at BIOS screen, OEM Splash before the
XP flag appears).

It is highly unlikely that the metal detector did something to
your laptop. I have done numerous trips to many countries
with many different laptops and they never suffered any
damage while going through these machines. I would
consider it a coincidence that it failed after going through
the metal detector - unless somebody dropped it!

Start by booting it with a Win98 disk (www.bootdisk.com)
to see if your disk is still readable. You may have to run
ntfsdos /L:MN to check ntfs partitions (www.sysinternals.com).

I travel all over the country, lots of airports, take 1 of three laptops
with me, and have for years, never had a problem with the laptop being
faulted by a x-ray scan - abuse yes, but not by the scanning.

You didn't give enough information about the laptop:

1) Vendor
2) Model
3) Warranty Status
4) What version of XP
5) What error does it show
6) Do you have a normal Windows XP CD or a recovery/restore CD

It wasn't a result of your laptop going through the detector. I do it
all the time, and so does my wife, with no loss of data.
