I have just upgraded a Laptop from Win 98 to Windows XP. Once I loaded all
service packs and hotfixes, I have not been able to get the laptop to stay
on. It keeps rebooting. As this is a clean install with nothing else on it,
would it be better for me start all over again?

Look forward to a response.

Thanks

Mil

Hi,

Have you tried loading it in Safe mode by hitting F8 at boot? If it loads ok
there, then I would uninstall the recent updates (control panel/add &
remove) and try restarting normally.

It sounds like your laptop is continually hitting a blue screen STOP error.
You can get more details on this error from your Event Log:

- click Start
- right-click My Computer
- go to Manage
- expand "Event Viewer"
- click System Log

Once you have the error code, it'll be easier to understand what's
happening.

Did you end up installing any drivers when you installed critical updates.
Bad drivers are a frequent cause of STOP errors.
