I'm takning a laptop to a friend who is going to be in the hospital for a
while. (Yes, it has been approved.)

I do, however, need to turn off wireless and infared capabilities. How is
this done in XP?

Thanks

Not too difficult. Go to Start Menu and right-click My Computer. Click
Manage, then click the Device Manager. Now double-click the Infrared
hardware and click the drop-down list at the bottom. Choose the
'disable' option. Repeat this process for the Wireless item. (These are
probably both listed under Network Adapters.)

You can also set up an alternative hardware profile, and save these
settings there. Then you can set Windows to prompt for a hardware
profile at startup. This would be useful if you wanted to be able to
turn the settings on or off depending on your situation. This step is
not necessary for your purposes, however.

This will have to be disabled in the BIOS.
