I was helping a friend with his laptop -- the CD Drive is no longer seen
in either bios or windows -- tho spins and has power -- eject button
works fine. You can jiggle and sometime get to show up briefly, but
then disappears again. With a desktop, solution would be easy -- simply
replace. But this is a HP labtop which has permanently installed drive
and do not see how to replace. No longer under warranty -- suggestions?
Thanks.

You have two options:
- Buy a replacement
- Use an external USB CD drive

The local HP Servicing center/Dealer will help you replacing the daulty
device.Just contact them.
Other thing you can do -using an external USB Cd-drive.
