Has anyone reading this used Laplink's PC Mover software to transfer
files, applications, settings, etc. from one XP computer to
another? If so, how well did the software work? Aaron

i have not used a program
like that in recent years, primarily
becuase the operating system
no longer is allowed to be
replicated from one computer
to another.

however, it is not to say
that the software cannot help
in simply transferring general
files like pic, docs, etc... to
another pc.

but if both computers have
genuine operating systems
installed on them, windows provides
a few options to share data between
them.

1) transferring settings
http://search.microsoft.com/results...&qsc0=0&SearchBtn0=Search&mkt=en-US&FORM=SSME

2) syncronizing files with "sync toy"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/prophoto/synctoy.mspx
them together and transfer fil

3) linking 2 computers
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...docs/en-us/hnw_wizard_overvieww.mspx?mfr=true

the above are just a few options

I bought PC Mover to do just that. However, there was stuff that I
*didn't* want transferred but I could find no way of doing a
selective transfer. Maybe I didn't read the instructions well
enough or maybe the clue was in the advert, which says "...PCmover
will determine which programs, files, and settings need to be
moved,..." and that was the problem for me.

Dear Killer Dude: thank's for your reply! You said the problem was
that
stuff you didn't want transferred was transferred. For me, this
would not be
critical as I can always delete applications & data after the
transfer.

A favor please, however, how well did your new computer work AFTER
the transfer? Were you able to access all of your programs without
hassle?
Did you need to re-install any programs? Any & all additional
comments
are welcomed! Aaron

As I could not find a way to select what *I* wanted to move, I
decided not to use PC Mover. So I'm afraid I cannot offer any
further help.

It might have been OK but I didn't want to take the risk of it
transfering registry settings, etc. from one laptop that would
have been innapropriate on the other.
