language some english some gibberish

My friends xp was installed in english, she shut down , all was working well, now after rebooting in morning, she can't read anything most of it is in something like hyrogliphs and some words are english, what happened and is there any help. thank you
 
it sounds like an uninvited guest. get a virus/trojan
scan, and scan for mal/spyware as well.
