Normally, if it's "???" it means it is not decoded as opposed to other types
of random characters (sorry can't reproduce here) which means not decoded
properly.
Can you ask the sender try to send a message using Unicode (UTF-8) and see
how it works.
Also can you read and/or write Chinese with any other applications under XP?
My understanding is this - For English (or Latine language in general)
version of XP to support Asian languages, you need language pack which is
available only to volume license customers, and I am lucky because our
company does have several language packs.
But I later learned that it might work out for some email messages if using
Unicode, so that's why I ask you to have the sender using Unicode, and if
that doesn't work out, you'd probably need a language pack.
