Dear List:
I bougth a laptop with Windows XP in French, I want to change it to english.
How can I do that?

Thanks in advance
Cesar

You can not change the language.
If you want Windows XP in English, you need to buy it in English.

Local ISP sells cheap laptops that open up with Swedish language. Just a
minuta ago a friend of mine called me with similar problem, he does not
understand Swedish well enough to be able to change the language to Finnish.
The salesperson had told my friend

"You just choose the language when you open up the computer for the first
time".

Is the salesman in error? They have ordered about one thousand such a
laptops to this town area. Sounds like a mistake, if it is not possible to
change the language. I know my friend can go to the shop tomorrow morning to
find the solution, but I got interested.

Is it possible that the laptop has a some kind of multilanguage install?

The Multilingual User Interface (MUI) can change languages but the original
Windows XP installed need to be English.
Or a separate Windows installation of each desired language is also possible
but they could not share installed programs and each will use the normal
space for installation.

It seems to me the salesman is in error.
Have the sales person demonstrate.
