When do you think you'll realize this isn't a chat room, and learn how to
spell and use proper grammer?

because i am a fuc*ing quadraplegic, u type w/a chopstick and your mouth u
insensative prick

Dear sir,
i dont run windows firewall at all, 2nd reguarding my post, i am a frigging
quadraplegic, thats why, you try typing with a chopstick and your mouth, i
have seen post's with grammer and spelling mistakes and general stupidity
that make my post look like a thesus for a phd, at least it was legible. and
just how much difference is there between a chatroom and a newsgroup?

i misspelled one word, i typed "ass" and it should have been "as", i think
the only wrong key i hit was enter to coime here

got one, but it's programmed for the shorthand and it does not know the
difference between a chat room or a newsgroup, and noone has awnsered my
question just what is the difference between the 2 and abrevating a few
words? i didnt know this was so formal, i'll be sure to put on a suit and tie
next time

Do you have a spell checker? That's another one - "coime" and in your last
post, "u" - this is NOT a chat room, what does "u" mean? And you also
spelled insensitive insensAtive. And you can't even spell what you are
suffering from - it's quadrIplegic, not quadrAplegic!

Sheeeesh!

Please be more specific. e.g When I try to map a drive on a computer running
XP Home SP2 to a shared folder on a computer running XP Pro SP1 i get the
following error: "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx". There are just too many
variables possible in your first post for anyone to offer any help.

Your right I should have been more specific, I will seek my tech support
elsewhere since tom and Gary seem so intent on bashing my grammar and
spelling. They accuse me of treating this like a chat room, well their posts
are more chat room chatter than my original post, and as for my last typo's
they were more out of anger than stupidity, I’ll compare brain pans with
either one any day

PS:
The words "tech" and "typo's" are Legitimate words, and I will run my little
spell checker for your little mind since you cant seem to conceive
abbreviated words

ROFL!

This is Usenet. People on Usenet are rude. Get over it and move on. There is
also a lot of free help available. If you post more details I'm sure you'll
get the help you need. Also if you'd quit attacking someone who is trying to
help you'll get more results. I am quite capable of understanding
abbreviations. Maybe you couldn't understand my post and equate variables
with abbreviations?

No not at all, I have never encountered anything like this in my life, and
would appreciate your help. Ok what I have is

System 1 desktop running xp/pro media center (I will have to check the
service pack but I stay on top of my updates so I am sure its SP2. also It is
the first version of media center which is 03 (if I am not mistaken)

System 2 desktop running windows xp pro version 2002 service pack 2

System 3 is a laptop running xp pro w/ media center 05; again I am
sure its SP2

System 4 which is not online yet, but will be running ADV SVR 2000,
and I think that is sp4, but l have not finished putting it together, nor
attempted to map it out, it will be running by the weekend

I will verify the service packs tomorrow, now I seem to remember reading
that service pack 2 by design tightens security i.e.: certain ports,
proxies/proxy’s (one of the 2, god forbid I misspell something, my self
appointed grammar teachers might have a fit) services, etc. all the systems
see each other and I have created at least one account with a password, as
windows wont allow you to map drives anymore with null passwords, when I
attempt to connect either via the share I created, the hidden share (drive
letter$) , or via \\000.000.000.000\sharename from either the run command or
the map drive option, it always kicks to the guest account, now I always turn
off the guest account and rename the admin account. And I even try the log in
with different user name; it does not like the username/password combo and
kicks back to the guest account. The last thing I want is a guest account
with admin privileges! I have checked the services and enabled everything
that would factor in on this, stuff like RPC stuff, workstation, server,
dependencies, and general stuff like that. I have had an easier time
connecting servers across domains!!

If you need anymore info, let me know and I will get it too you, I have
worked with servers more than xp, so maybe I need to create a universal group
and work it like a domain. (I have no plans to make the 2k sever a DC, but I
might, I just need to get everything networked so I can kill dupe files and
run something like one note or something similar to maintain the changes to
each file, I’m a bit rusty, and I never should have lowered myself to his
level, he struck a nerve, again thanks in advance

Rick

Thanks for all the info. I have a very busy day today and don't have time to
try and figure it all out. As a start.

Disable simple file sharing on all the XP Pro computers.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;307874

Create an account with the same user name and password on all the computers.

Check the Share permissions and the NTFS permissions on the shares other
than root$ i.e. C$. Set the share permissions for full control for everyone
and use NTFS to secure the folder.

I'll check back in this evening if this doesn't get you going post back with
what you tried and any error messages when you try to access the shares.

thanks for the reply, didnt get a chance to try anything today, will work on
it tommorow and let you know asap, thanks!
