lan lights at the back of the CPU

what do the orange and green lights at the back of the cpu by the lan mean.
if the the orange light alone is showing what does this suggest.

Without knowing details of your computer's hardware, I can't say for
sure.

They probably indicate the status of the computer's Ethernet network
adapter: whether it's connected to a network, rated speed of the
connection (10 Mb or 100 Mb), connection mode (full or half duplex),
whether it's actively transmitting data, etc.

Are there any markings next to the lights that might describe what
they mean?

On my machine, the Green indicator lights continuously when the cable
is connected to a live network and the Orange flashes as data packets
are detected on the network.
