LAN connection problems

I have had a successful connection between laptop and pc at home and at work
until recently. For some reason, my two computers can no longer see each
other. I am connected via a wireless card in my laptop. Both the pc and
the laptop can access the internet but they cannot see each other. A week
ago, if I went to windows explorer on either computer, I could open up files
on either. All files, folders and drives are set up for file sharing. I
have recently set up a new workgroup to try and fix the problem but still no
dice. What did I do and what am I missing here? I have two external drives
that I used to be able to see with both computers but again, no dice. Any
ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Steve,

One of the recurring issues with "seeing" other computers is the DHCP node
type setting. Open a command windows (Start-->Run-->cmd) and type in
"ipconfig /all"

If it says DHCP Node Type is peer-to-peer, then that is your problem and you
have to edit the registry to set that to something else. If you feel
confident about registry editing, run a google search on "changing DHCP node
type" and you will find instructions how to do it.

Hi Tom. The node type says "hybrid"
The following is also displayed:
dhcp enabled
Thanks for getting back to me. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Shattuck,

I'm sorry, but that was my "trick" that made it work on my network. I hope
someone else can help you.

Steve,

Start by looking for a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other
security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any might be
the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

What is the significance of "at home and at work"? Do you carry both computers
back and forth? Do you have other computers involved in the problem? Other
computers at home? At work? When you move any computer between the two
locations, do you always power it off completely, or do you ever use hibernation
or standby?

Or provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we can
diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):
