I have recently upgraded to Word 2003, and I believe I will soon need therapy secondary to trying to work with the new "easier" merge tools. One of my major issues is that most of my mailings go to the Northeast where zip codes start with zero. Despite the fact that I have my Excel cells (source data) defined as zip codes and this keeps the zeros in place in the data, the merge function removes all the zeros so I can up with four number zip codes and I have to go in manually and insert zeros in all the zip codes. Does anyone know defeat this?

You'll probably need to change the way you link to Excel. See

I need therapy too. How about the five digit and five-four zip codes. The info is set up in Excel and using the [<=99999]00000;0000 formula which I found after much searching. The Word mail merge still doesn't work on the five-four zip codes. My old version (Office 2000) handled this with no problem. Seems as if each version gets more difficult and less practical.

To get formatted numbers, you need to change the way you link to Excel. See
