I'm not sure if the error is on the firewall or on the client PC. The VPN
server works for users at other sites, but we cannot connect from our site.
Client PC is a Pentium4 running Windows XP, Service Pack 1.
We are using the L2TP/IPSEC+NAT installer(MS KB818043) from the Technet cd.
Full error-
'Error 789: The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer
enountered a processing error during the initial negotions with the remote
computer.'
This is a fully functioning VPN client at a remote site. This is the first
time we have tried to connect via our site however.
We are attempting to connect thru our firewall via port UDP 500, Internet
Key Exchange
Port UDP 4500 NAT, Protocol 50, and ESP
Those ports are open in our firewall but our client errs out with error 789.
Also our firewall guys cannot see any traffic. This leads me to believe it
is a client PC issue.
Any leads appreciated, and I will post the full fix to this group when I
find it.
