KVM Disrupts Mouse

I run Windows XP that has its mouse, keyboard, and monitor
connected to several PCs through a no-name brand KVM. I notice that
sometimes, when I switch from one system to another, my XP loses
contact with my mouse, so the cursor ends up dead on the screen.

I have found that by disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse, I
sometimes regain control of it. I suspect that Windows XP
periodically pools the ports to make sure that the ports it thought
were in use at boot up are still connected to something, and when
my KVM is pointing to another PC, XP drops the connection.

Besides disconnecting/reconnecting the mouse, is there some other
way to keep XP from freezing the mouse?

Get a better KVM, one that sends a "keep-alive" signal to the PCs.
