Been looking at kvm switchs on newegg.com. Is it possible to have 2 pcs
on a kvm switch, each with their own monitor but 1 keyboard, 1 mouse for
both? I wanted to use the second pc to play with linux, XP pro and some
other stuff. It'd be easier to access help on web, pdfs with 2 monitors.
keyboard and mouse are the dirt cheap variety, no usb or wireless.
Can any one recommend a good kvm for this?

Just hook each machine directly to its own monitor, not to the KVM.
Hook up the rest to the KVM as usual.

I've used cheap AirLink and a really ancient Belkin OmniView.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yea, but what about sound? You want sound on both computers? You can
get KVM switches now that also share speakers.

Nothing says you have to use ALL the KVM components. You can split a single
keyboard, mouse or montor, or any combination you like, that's up to you.
In your case, you just connect each monitor into each PC as normal, and just
ignore the KVM's VGA cable.

Nope, no sound.
First pc has speakers that are turned all they way down most of the
time.
