PC crashed recently & have been unable to get it running
since. Tried safe mode But get the error krnl386.exe
failed to initialise.

How if possible can I recover from this error. Can get a
copy of the file from a friends pc but am very unsure as
to how to load it on to mine (dos ain't strong point),
thats if its possible or will I need to do a complete
reinstall)

Only thing I have changed on pc was trying to upgrade
memory however got errors there so had to take it out
again - pc was working great afterwards

Any help greatly appreciated

Try booting in Safe Mode.

To start Windows XP in Safe Mode turn on the computer and start
tapping the F8 key rapidly just as soon as the first information of
any type shows on the screen. Keep tapping rapidly until the Windows
Startup Menu appears and choose Safe Mode from the menu.

If it will start in Safe Mode then use Start - Run and enter the
following command:

SFC /SCANNOW

If Windows XP will not start in Safe Mode then you may have to do a
repair install of your Windows XP as per the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Good luck
