Killing the Messenger

I have disabled this in every way I can think of but when I start windows I still get msnmgs.exe trying to act as a server on startup and I have to manually kill it. I've disable in msconfig & services but it still comes back sometimes. I have multiple disable instances of in on the startup tab. I've also tried a typical delete while windows is running and it just pops back up, I don't think I should have to delete it outside of windows, one of these disables should work right?

Joe,

What AntiVirus product are you using? Norton, for instance, will force
msmsgs.exe to start, if you enable Windows Messenger protection.

I'll try that link to remove it, but thats odd that I have to because I have 1) tried deleting myself 2) actually removed it as a windows component , and 3) disabled it in 2 different ways

Its the 2nd one that really erks me, its like my product isn't listening to me and that pisses me off : /
 
oops, wasn't through, just ranting here. I hate it when microsoft is pushy like that. You know this whole messenger madness and the difficulty to remove is just another monopoly plot right? They want to take over the IM sector as well. I thought there was a court ruling already that made it so they couldn't have windows defaults that guided ignorant users to other products of theirs? Is this coming in the next version because XP was already out before that?
 
He has MSN Messenger by the filename he mentions, not Windows Messenger. Therefore his instructions he's folllowed have probably worked with Windows Messenger. Matbe he can try Add/Remove Programs for MSN Messenger as it's not a Windows component.
