A second hand HP model SK 2501 A keyboard is connected to my friend
computer, but it doesn't light at all, it has lots of extra buttons I've
never seen before like one on the right side of the kb with a padlock by it,
is this button a kind of security the reason the kb doesn't work?

If the lock has a letter in it, then it's probably CAPS LOCK. If it has
a number in it then it's NUMLOCK. Toggling those on the keyboard should
change the kit status.

If in fact it's a different sort of button, then perhaps looking for the
documentation on the HP website would be productive.

Try a different keyboard. This will tell you if the keyboard chip on the
motherboard is bad or not.
