keyboard stops functioning during AIM chat session

Using Windows XP Pro, AIM version 5.1.3036. During a
chat session, depending on how fast and how often I type
in the chat window, the text that I type usually begins
repeating itself in the chat window over and over
repeatedly. At the same time, my keyboard function stops
altogether. I can no longer use the keyboard to type
anything whatsoever, in any application program...unless
I reboot my PC. Then the keyboard functionality
returns. What could be causing this to happen? I ran a
virus scan from Trend Micro and no virus turned up on my
system. Any thoughts? Help!!!

Anything AOL is an AOL problem and AOL support is the source for help,
if even they know anything about AOL software.
