I've looked everywhere and found all sorts of keyboard shortcuts. I can't
find 3, they are: selecting current word, selecting current sentence, and
selecting paragraph. Can anyone out there help me. :(TAP

Double-click to select a word, Ctrl+click to select a sentence (more or
less). Triple-click (or double-click in the left margin) to select a
paragraph. All these shortcuts are listed in Word's Help under "Keyboard
shortcuts."

Thank you....so simple. Got one more dumb question, when I press the F8, how
do you stop it from highlighting the text?

Thank you for responding, but I was looking for a keyboard shortcut without
using the mouse with the clicks, I know how to do that. I did find out the
F8 is the key to use in doing all 3 that I needed to find out about.
Unfortunately, I'm still trying to turn on the select mode once it's turned
on. Thanks again for responding :)!

Thank you so much for responding, how do you turn off the F8 once it's been
turned on to select? It's a dumb question, but for the life of me, I can't
figure it out. :)

f8 turns on extended selection, if you don't want to do that, control shift
right and left arrows select by word and shift right arrow select by
letter.

I don't think TAP wants to use his mouse too much (wouldn't need to
substitute left-click with F8 ;-)). ESC would probably be "the" shortcut
here.

D'oh! I enter text with the keyboard and edit with the mouse, so I just
wasn't thinking!

I cannot use the mouse as I am visually impaired so I memorize keyboard
shortcuts witch can often, to me, be faster then moving your hand back and
forth between the keyboard and mouse.

Robert, thank you so much. I'm actually a heavy mouse user too. I'm
currently doing a computer class at Santa Ana College and it required a
keyboard shortcut assignment. I have 3 different printouts showing keyboard
shortcuts I took off of MS and none of them talks about my original question
of using the keyboard only and selecting text. Amazing. Thanks again for
reading carefully on my request and answering my question. I'll try the
escape. TAP

Okay, you guys got me. I tried all of these keys and nothing works (esc or
arrow keys), any other suggestions on turning off the F8 key when it's in
select mode? TAP

According to Word's Help, ESC is the correct key. It turns F8 off, but it
doesn't unselect the selected text. To do that, you have to use an arrow
key. This didn't work for me the first time I tried it, but then I couldn't
get it to not work on subsequent trials. <sigh>

Your welcome! FWIW, for selecting (portions of) text, I mainly use SHIFT
+ the arrow keys in combination with HOME, END, CTRL, etc.
