Greetings,

Using XP SP2, I have a redundant problem. The keyboard stop working at
everynow and then. I have to use the "restore points" to be able to get
back on a previous system state which worked but the problem is always back
several hours later.

I have scanned for virus with AVG and AVAST.
I have scanned for spyware with Spybot 1.4.
I did a chkdsk c: /f /r. but didn't fix the problem yet.
I have tried a repair install which failed since the keyboard wasn't working
so I couldn't enter the serial number and such.

What did I miss ?

TIA

What happens when you try a different keyboard?

If it's a problem with the keyboard itself then repair installation
won't help.
What keyboard do you have?Update the keyboard driver. If it has battery
then check their health.
You may try with another Keyboard to check the issue.

Problem is not with the keyboard itself. I've tried a new keyboard with no
luck. Problem is within XP.

Well, if you had told us that you tried a different keyboard in your
*first* post, we wouldn't have suggested that troubleshooting step.

Look in Event Viewer for clues. Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

Since you haven't told us anything about your computer, I have no way of
knowing if you've already tried these things:

1. If this is a desktop pc and the keyboard(s) are ps/2, try a usb
keyboard. If the keyboard(s) are usb, try a ps/2 keyboard.

Random failures usually indicate hardware problems. If you have a
desktop machine and are using ps/2 keyboards to test, the ps/2
connector on your motherboard may be bad.

2. If this is a laptop, try an external keyboard. If that doesn't work,
contact the laptop mftr.'s tech support.

Thanks for your reply Malke,

Unfortunately I've tried a new keyboard, a different connector (USB) but no
luck. Problem is within XP itself, not hardware for sure.

Thanks
