xp tells me I don't have a keyboard driver and my keyboard sure does not
work. On startup I get an error message also saying that registry data cannot
be found., although xp generally seems to work. System restore does not work.
I'd be quite happy just to re-install xp and start again but I would need to
enter the character1 to start my e-machines restore disk-impossible without a
functioing keyboard! All this has been typed with the on-screen keyboard,
which is not available when the restore disk is used. Ideas welcomed!

Hi, Graham.

Is this some exotic keyboard? Did it come with your computer? USB or PS/2
interface? English, or some other language? You really have told us
nothing about it except that it doesn't work. If you mention the make and
model or just a little about it, maybe someone here will recognize it and
have some tips for you.

The WinXP CD-ROM has "native" drivers for most keyboards, and Setup usually
detects them properly and installs the right driver.

I don't know what kind of CD-ROM comes with your eMachine computer. A full
"retail" copy of WinXP CD-ROM is fully bootable and can install WinXP "from
scratch", but some OEMs pack less that a full copy of WinXP with their
computers. :>(

Try using the on-screen keyboard or the mouse to enter the
device manager and delete the keyboard, on rebooting the
keyboard should be "discovered" by plug and play and the
correct drivers installed.
