keyboard does not respond after a while

Very frequently my keyboard stops responding when I try to type in any application also keyboard shortcuts. I installed some updates from Microsoft website just recently but I don't think they had anything to do with it.
Any suggestions??
 
Is your keyboard PS-2 or USB?
