Periodically my keyboard characters change so that what I type is not what is
being printed on my Outllook email. Please help!
I have a Microsoft keyboard. I know I must be hitting some key
inadvertently; but I can't figure out which one(s).
Thank you in advance.

See if you can borrow someone's keyboard. I would guess you have a
keyboard going out.

While this is really way off topic, I'll see if I can help.

One thing that causes characters to change is the stupid Language toolbar.
If you right-click on your system toolbar (where the Start button is) and
select Toolbars>Language bar you will see an icon for Options. You might
have to lengthen the bar a bit to see it. Choose settings.

You will get a dialog box. If you have the international language as the
default language, when you press certain keys, the next key you press will
change to the character that is a combination of the 2 keys.

For example, pressing " and then o will give you ö instead of "o. To turn
on/off that "feature" press Ctrl+Shift. Or you can permanently turn it off
by selecting the international keyboard and removing it.

Thank you so much, Bill. I just turned off both "switches." I'm sure that I
was hitting some combination with the ALT & Ctrl inadvertently as I have MS
and don't always hit what I intend. A bit cheaper, too, than a new keyboard.
The new MS Entertainment Desktop 8000 coming out in Feb 07 really caught my
eye. :)
Thanks again.

Glasd I could help.

When I first saw the international language keyboard setup I thought "this
is cool." I occasionally need to use an acented character, but I also use
key combinations in many programs that use Ctrl+Shift and inadvertantly turn
on the setup. But I finally got used to it.
