keyboard character problem

The backslash character on my keyboard displays as a Japanese yen character
(a Y with two bars in it). All attempts to correct this have proven futile.
All forein language sets have been removed and I'm using the US standard set.
All other charachters are OK. How can I correct the backslash character?
None of my scripts or run commands that use backslash will work. Hence am
unable to run scripted CDs, etc.

Open you screen keyboard and test the backlash there. Start > Programs >
accessories > accesiability > desktop keyboard If the backlash
works fine using your mouse, then i would consider getting another keyboard.
