Keyboard character change

I am an XPpro user in the UK for some time, and for no
apparent reason some of my characters have changed, such
as the UK pound sign above the number 3 key has changed
to a "hash" and the @ key is now the quote marks of key
number 2 etc.

Can anybody help out there!

control panel \ regional settings
In the dropdown list the setting has been changed from English (UK) to
English (US). Correct this, then apply and okay your way out, reboot.
