keyboard arrow keys

My keyboard arrow keys, do not work properly, they don't move the cursor left or right, and any application in which i need to use the right and left arrow keys to move left or right, instead for examle in internet explorer they act as the
"back" and "foward" buttons, how do i change them back to just moving things left or right. if this makes any sense at all, help.

left or right. if this makes any sense at all, help.

Is it possible that your alt key is stuck down? Alt-left and alt-right are
supposed to be back and forward.
